Moving from GreenGeeks
Three ways to do it. Most people pick the first one: about 10 minutes, and nothing goes down while it switches over.
1. Point your domain to us Recommended
Your domain stays at GreenGeeks (you keep paying them for it). We host the new site. You just swap two settings.
Before you start: we'll email you two nameservers that look like xxxx.ns.cloudflare.com. Have that email open.
- GreenGeeks gives no registrar-side steps; if the domain is registered elsewhere change nameservers at that registrar
- Recommended GreenGeeks NS: ns1.greengeeks.net / ns2.greengeeks.net (not applicable when pointing to Cloudflare)
Official help page: www.greengeeks.com/support/article/what-are-the-greengeeks-name-server
Changes usually show up within a few hours, at most 24 to 48. Your old site keeps working until the switch finishes.
2. Move your domain to us
We take over the domain itself, so you get one bill (ours) for website, hosting and domain. It stays registered in your name and we renew it at cost.
- my.greengeeks.com > Domains tab > Manage next to the domain
- Switch off Registrar Lock and ID Protect
- Click SEND EPP / TRANSFER CODE (goes to registrant email)
- Give us the code; start transfer at Cloudflare and click the confirmation link sent to the administrative email
Timing: Not eligible within 60 days of registration/transfer; wait 60 days after a renewal at the old registrar. Renew first if under 2 weeks to expiry. Cannot change nameservers during a transfer. Dashboard article is ~5 years old.
Then send us: the authorization code (also called the EPP or transfer code). Paste it in your dashboard or reply to our email. Don't post it anywhere public.

3. Keep GreenGeeks, let us in to fix or rebuild
Best if you only want fixes or a rebuild and want to stay on GreenGeeks. You invite us; we never need your login.
GreenGeeks calls it: UNVERIFIED. No official multi-user feature found; official articles cover cPanel FTP accounts. · Choose: Limited FTP account or temporary cPanel/dashboard password share
Invite this email: hello@advancingwebsites.com
- Create an additional FTP account in cPanel > Files > FTP Accounts with directory set to the site folder (GreenGeeks article)
- Or shares their login and change the password afterwards (your choice)

Good to know about GreenGeeks
- Dashboard EPP steps are from a 5-year-old article; verify in the live dashboard.
- GreenGeeks pushes its own Dashboard over cPanel for routine tasks.
Heads up: we couldn't confirm every step here from GreenGeeks's own help pages. If a screen looks different, send us a screenshot and we'll walk you through it.
