Moving from InMotion Hosting

Three ways to do it. Most people pick the first one: about 10 minutes, and nothing goes down while it switches over.

Never send us your password. Every option below uses InMotion Hosting's own invite or settings screens, so you stay in control and can remove us any time.

1. Point your domain to us Recommended

Your domain stays at InMotion Hosting (you keep paying them for it). We host the new site. You just swap two settings.

Before you start: we'll email you two nameservers that look like xxxx.ns.cloudflare.com. Have that email open.

  1. AMP > Domains > Manage Domains > select the domain
  2. Choose Custom Nameservers (or 'Point your domain')
  3. Enter two nameservers (Cloudflare's) and save (4-24 hours)
  4. Domain registered elsewhere: change at that registrar

Official help page: www.inmotionhosting.com/support/domain-names/change-domain-nameservers

Changes usually show up within a few hours, at most 24 to 48. Your old site keeps working until the switch finishes.

2. Move your domain to us

We take over the domain itself, so you get one bill (ours) for website, hosting and domain. It stays registered in your name and we renew it at cost.

  1. Per InMotion's current guide: contact InMotion Support (live chat/phone/ticket) and request the EPP code; confirm domain unlocked
  2. Renew first if within 14 days of expiry
  3. Give us the code; start transfer at Cloudflare

Timing: 60-day ICANN lock after registrant-contact change; older article also says privacy must be removed and 60 days after registration. Whether the code is self-service in AMP is unconfirmed.

Then send us: the authorization code (also called the EPP or transfer code). Paste it in your dashboard or reply to our email. Don't post it anywhere public.

3. Keep InMotion Hosting, let us in to fix or rebuild

Best if you only want fixes or a rebuild and want to stay on InMotion Hosting. You invite us; we never need your login.

InMotion Hosting calls it: No multi-user AMP. Official guidance: limited FTP account, separate CMS admin user, cPanel password reset, 'developer passphrase' (Login & Security in AMP) · Choose: FTP account limited to the site folder + WordPress admin user. AMP and cPanel allow only one user each.

Invite this email: hello@advancingwebsites.com

  1. Create an FTP account in cPanel limited to the site's document root (see cPanel guide)
  2. And/or create a WordPress/CMS admin user for us
  3. If we need cPanel itself: you change the cPanel password before sharing and resets it afterwards
  4. InMotion staff advise against sharing AMP (it holds billing and total account control)
