Moving from Name.com

Three ways to do it. Most people pick the first one: about 10 minutes, and nothing goes down while it switches over.

Never send us your password. Every option below uses Name.com's own invite or settings screens, so you stay in control and can remove us any time.

1. Point your domain to us Recommended

Your domain stays at Name.com (you keep paying them for it). We host the new site. You just swap two settings.

Before you start: we'll email you two nameservers that look like xxxx.ns.cloudflare.com. Have that email open.

  1. Log in > My Domains > the domain
  2. Under Domain Actions choose Manage Nameservers
  3. Clear existing nameservers, add the two Cloudflare ones, save (~48 hours)

Changes usually show up within a few hours, at most 24 to 48. Your old site keeps working until the switch finishes.

2. Move your domain to us

We take over the domain itself, so you get one bill (ours) for website, hosting and domain. It stays registered in your name and we renew it at cost.

  1. Log in, My Domains (top right), select the domain
  2. Unlock the domain
  3. Open Domain Actions > Show Transfer Authorization Code
  4. Give us the code; start transfer at Cloudflare
  5. Disable Whois privacy only if the new registrar requires it

Timing: Code shows 'Unavailable' for the first 60 days after registration/transfer (Name.com cannot lift this). Typically 5-7 days. Export DNS records (CSV tool) before leaving.

Then send us: the authorization code (also called the EPP or transfer code). Paste it in your dashboard or reply to our email. Don't post it anywhere public.

3. Keep Name.com, let us in to fix or rebuild

Best if you only want fixes or a rebuild and want to stay on Name.com. You invite us; we never need your login.

Name.com calls it: UNVERIFIED for sharing. Name.com offers parent/sub accounts (Security > Manage Cloned/Sub Accounts) which move domains into a sub account the third party logs into. · Choose:

Invite this email: hello@advancingwebsites.com

  1. Official sub-account article body did not load; search text says sub accounts are created from Security > Manage Cloned/Sub Accounts and parent can access sub, not vice versa
  2. Cloned accounts are discontinued
