Moving from SiteGround

Three ways to do it. Most people pick the first one: about 10 minutes, and nothing goes down while it switches over.

Never send us your password. Every option below uses SiteGround's own invite or settings screens, so you stay in control and can remove us any time.

1. Point your domain to us Recommended

Your domain stays at SiteGround (you keep paying them for it). We host the new site. You just swap two settings.

Before you start: we'll email you two nameservers that look like xxxx.ns.cloudflare.com. Have that email open.

  1. Domain registered at SiteGround: Client Area > Services > Domains > Settings > Manage Nameservers tab > Manage
  2. Nameserver type: choose Custom
  3. Enter the Cloudflare nameservers and confirm (several hours)
  4. Domain registered elsewhere: change at that registrar

Official help page: www.siteground.com/tutorials/getting-started/manage-domains-name-serve

Changes usually show up within a few hours, at most 24 to 48. Your old site keeps working until the switch finishes.

2. Move your domain to us

We take over the domain itself, so you get one bill (ours) for website, hosting and domain. It stays registered in your name and we renew it at cost.

  1. Open Client Area > Services > Domains and click Settings next to the domain
  2. Open the kebab menu, select Registrar Lock and set it to Off (wait ~24 hours)
  3. In the kebab menu select Get EPP Code (if absent, the extension needs no code)
  4. Give us the code; start transfer at Cloudflare
  5. Watch the domain's administrative email for the approval message (if Domain Privacy hides it, cancel privacy under Services)

Timing: Allow 24 hours after unlocking; ICANN 60-day lock after registration/transfer. SiteGround can only issue codes for domains it registered. No overall timeline in the article.

Then send us: the authorization code (also called the EPP or transfer code). Paste it in your dashboard or reply to our email. Don't post it anywhere public.

3. Keep SiteGround, let us in to fix or rebuild

Best if you only want fixes or a rebuild and want to stay on SiteGround. You invite us; we never need your login.

SiteGround calls it: Client Area > Websites > Actions > Manage Users (Collaborator) · Choose: Collaborator (Site Tools/Site Admin of that website only; no billing, no email tools, cannot delete site or change primary domain). 'Client' role is white-label reseller access (GoGeek+), not needed.

Invite this email: hello@advancingwebsites.com

  1. Log in to SiteGround Client Area > Websites
  2. Click the Actions (three dots) menu for the site and select Manage Users
  3. On the Users tab click Add Users
  4. Select New User, enter our name and email, click Add
  5. We accept within 48 hours and create our own SiteGround Client Area
  6. We open Websites > Collaborations > Site Tools
