Moving from Wix
Three ways to do it. Most people pick the first one: about 10 minutes, and nothing goes down while it switches over.
1. Point your domain to us Recommended
Your domain stays at Wix (you keep paying them for it). We host the new site. You just swap two settings.
Before you start: we'll email you two nameservers that look like xxxx.ns.cloudflare.com. Have that email open.
- Option A (pointing, keeps Wix DNS): Wix account > Domains > Domain Actions > Manage DNS Records
- In A (Host) click + Add Record, host blank or @, value = our IP, Save; delete old A records
- In CNAME (Aliases) add www pointing to our host value, Save; delete old CNAME
- Option B (nameservers): first unassign domain from the Wix site, then Domains > Domain Actions > Manage DNS records
- Scroll to Nameservers, click Use custom nameservers
- Enter both Cloudflare nameservers, Continue, tick confirmation, click Switch nameservers
- Allow up to 48 hours

Changes usually show up within a few hours, at most 24 to 48. Your old site keeps working until the switch finishes.
2. Move your domain to us
We take over the domain itself, so you get one bill (ours) for website, hosting and domain. It stays registered in your name and we renew it at cost.
- Turn off Private Registration (recommended) and makes sure domain is unlocked
- Wix account > Domains
- Click Domain Actions icon next to the domain
- Select Transfer away from Wix
- Review and click Transfer Domain, then I Still Want to Transfer
- Wix emails the EPP/authorization code to the registrant contact email
- Give us the code; start transfer at Cloudflare (domain must be a Cloudflare zone first, see gotchas)
Timing: ICANN 60-day lock after registration, registrant-contact change, or a previous transfer; up to 7 days to complete; Wix cannot track or speed it up. Only site owner (or Admin who holds the domain's payment method) can start it. .co.uk uses IPS tag. Business email stops until MX records are re-added.
Then send us: the authorization code (also called the EPP or transfer code). Paste it in your dashboard or reply to our email. Don't post it anywhere public.

3. Keep Wix, let us in to fix or rebuild
Best if you only want fixes or a rebuild and want to stay on Wix. You invite us; we never need your login.
Wix calls it: Roles & Permissions > Invite Collaborators · Choose: Website Designer (edits site, manages settings and apps, cannot see Inbox/contacts/sensitive data). Add the Domain Manager role (connects/manages domains, no purchases) only if we need to edit DNS in Wix. Admin (Co-Owner) is full access.
Invite this email: hello@advancingwebsites.com
- Open the site dashboard
- Go to Roles & Permissions (Wix app: Manage > Settings > Roles & Permissions)
- Click Invite Collaborators
- Enter our email in the Emails field
- Tick the role (Website Designer; optionally Domain Manager) and click Send Invites
- We accept the email invite

Good to know about Wix
- A Wix site cannot be moved or hosted elsewhere (proprietary SaaS). It must be rebuilt; only store products can be exported to CSV.
- Cloudflare says Wix domains usually cannot be transferred straight to Cloudflare because Cloudflare requires its nameservers first; Wix-registered domains with Wix nameservers: switch to custom nameservers (Wix allows this) so the zone goes Active, then transfer. If that fails Cloudflare's documented workaround is transfer to an intermediate registrar, wait 60 days, then to Cloudflare.
- Switching nameservers or transferring out disconnects the site and Wix mailboxes unless MX records are recreated.
